SPECIALIST PARENTING ASSESSMENTS

PAMs - Stand for "Parenting Assessment Manual"

Specialists Parenting Assessments (Parent Assess/PAMs)

Our social workers are formally trained to use specialist parenting assessment models, suitable for vulnerable parents with additional needs. We can provide these assessments to courts and local authorities, as part of pre-proceedings or within care proceedings.

These assessments cover such areas as:

1 - Childcare and development
2 - Behaviour management
3 - Independent living skills
4 - Safety and hygiene
5 - Parental health
6 - Relationships and support
7 - The impact of the environment and community on parenting

These assessments look at a parent’s knowledge and skills using methods that work well for parents who may find it hard to respond to verbal questions or struggle with abstract concepts, such as emotional wellbeing.

At the end of the assessment, assessors clearly identify areas where support is needed and any possible risk to a child. This enables parents and professionals to better understand the parent’s areas of strength and need.

We are able to provide assessments within 6 – 8 weeks in most cases.
